DC CROP Hunger Walk: Ending Hunger…One Step at a Time

Looking to make a difference in these trying times, the Washington, DC CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 180 Walkers and a $20,000 target in order to help stop hunger and poverty in our community and around the world through self-help initiatives.  A portion of the funds raised here from the Washington, DC CROP Hunger Walk will go to help Martha’s Table and DC Hunger Solution.

The even will take place on Saturday, May 5 at the Christ United Methodist Church at 4th and I Street SW.  Registration starts at 9:45 a.m..

Local Charity Holds Seventh Annual Wine Tasting to Benefit Foster Care

 

May is National Foster Care Month. To celebrate, non-profit, KidsPeace, is holding their seventh annual wine tasting on May 24 at Corridor Fine Wine in Laurel.

From 6-9 p.m., guests will enjoy featured wines and champagnes from various countries and regions while benefitting 100 children in foster care programs throughout the D.C. area.

Thirty percent of all winery direct sales will be donated to benefit the KEYS program, which provides life-skills training for foster youth ages 16-20, who face uncertain times as they prepare for their transition from care to independent living.

This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

Looking to adopt a pet? The Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources’ Animal Management Division can help you find the perfect pet and discover how amazing adopting a pet can be.

On Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a FREE Spring Pet Adoption event at the Animal Services Facility located at 3750 Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro.

The family-friendly event will promote the importance of animal adoption and feature reduced adoption fees ($45 for cats and $100 for dogs), a pet fashion show and parade, local pet vendors, a bake, craft and yard sale, and lots of other pet-friendly activities. 

All proceeds benefit the Animal Services Facility.

On April 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., The National Vietnam Veteran’s Foundation & Gospel Union Church of Christ are giving back to our Nation's Veterans by hosting a Veterans Outreach Event at the American Legion Post 82, La Plata, MD.  Veterans who live in the local community are being asked to come out and talk to representatives from job employment opportunities, and to learn about benefit entitlements.

You will have an opportunity to speak with representatives from the Veterans Administration and Department of HUD to receive information on VA programs, benefits, and services that are available. You will also have an opportunity to speak with hiring companies to inquire about job openings and submit your resume for positions of interest.
