Children Found Wandering Street; Va. Mother Arrested

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Two children were found wandering in a neighborhood in Manassas on Friday morning, Prince William County Police said in a news release. 

The mother, Esmeralda Carolina Acosta Montoya, 28, of Manassas, was arrested about 45 minutes after police were notified that the kids were missing, police said. 

It happened at around 10:28 a.m., when a person called police, informing them that the caller had found the two children wandering, police said. 

"The caller located two children, a 3 year old girl and 5 year old boy, walking the area above unsupervised. The caller took the children to nearby Westgate Elementary School where police were notified. The investigation revealed that the accused had left the children in a locked room of the residence while she was gone for about for two hours," police said. 

Charged with two counts of felony child endangerment and she has been released on a $4,500 bond. 

DC Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A sexual assault suspect has been taken into custody in Washington, D.C., police said. 

Jamal Coleman, 20, of Fort Washington, Md., has been arrested for an incident that happened on Thursday morning, police said. 

"An employee of the Harris Educational Center was working inside of the building when an unknown male approached her and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed and after a brief struggle, the victim was able to escape the suspect and call the police," police said in a news release. 

Coleman is charged with Assault with the Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault.

Intruder Killed By Off-Duty Officer At Md. Home Identified

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA) -- The intruder killed by a homeowner, who is also an Alexandria Deputy Sheriff, has been identified, officials say. 

Prince George's County police say 20-year-old Jon Adgrain Pocknett was shot by the deputy after the suspect broke into his house on Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the 8400 block of Rose Marie Drive in Fort Washington, Md., for a shooting late Tuesday night. They found someone suffering from a gun shot wound.

Police say the deputy sheriff, who was off-duty, stated that he caught someone breaking into his house and shot that person. 

The person died.

The deputy has been placed on Administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation by the Prince George's County and Alexandria Sheriff's Office.

Police Search For Suspect In Fort Washington Shooting

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA) - Prince George's County Police are asking for your help in locating 21-year-old, Jeff Allen Crews, who is wanted for a non-fatal shooting that took place in January.

Police officials say the shooting, which stemmed from a robbery, happened in Fort Washington at the 2500 block of Corning Avenue on Jan. 17.
