Sobriety Checkpoints for 4th of July Weekend

An increased amount of motorists and pedestrians will be traveling throughout Maryland for the holiday weekend and Prince George's County wants to make sure they arrive safely to their destinations. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-related crashes,The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the central portion of the County on Friday, July 1, 2011 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. as part of a safe 4th of July holiday weekend.

Each year drunk driving is a major cause of injury and fatal collisions. The objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and encourage all drivers to designate a sober driver if they choose to drink.

For more information, contact the Prince George's County Police Department’s Press Information Office at (301) 772-4710.
